Mattar Paneer
Kheer
Basmati Rice
Fruit Salad (apples, papaya, mango, banana, pineapple and oranges and cantaloupe)
and, of course, French Canadian Bean Soup
The ones marked V are either lacto-vegetarian (no dead animals or eggs) or can be easily made so without special ingredients, such as egg substitute or TVP. If you're vegan, you're on your own until someone makes an edible vegan cheese that is sold at a reasonable price. All of my list are either lactovegetarian or vegan.

hmmm but soooo darn tempting...

Dear Afaque ji,
ReplyDeleteI do notice two noticeable omissions: Grilled cheese sandwich, still my favourite funked in tomato soup. And cream of mushroom soup. When whenever I get sick, I revert to childhood with Dad bringing me a bowl of not-too-hot cream of mushroom soup with two sliced of buttered whole wheat toast, cut in quarters diagonally.. Do beverages count as comfort foods? If so, we must add hot chocolate, eh?
What memories these foods evoke! Of course, I have never eaten the cross-out ones, but ALL the others.
I do note that lack of pork (there are kosher hotdogs) and also, except for tuna casserole, a lack of seafood.
Mai you have touched one of my favorite subjects! And since I have some time for once and you haven't posted in the last few days, I think I'll join your little imaginary journey into comfort food heaven. Remember when Verner's made your sinus's open up? I grew up in Detroit and a lot of people outside of the mid-west never had Verner's until after I was older. What I miss about comfort food is that you can get it anytime, anywhere and no longer a specific thing to where you were in your childhood. Does that make sense? xoxoxo

Some of those pictures made me hungry just looking at them.
ReplyDeleteAh, comfort foods! I should make my own list and keep some on hand at all times.
ReplyDeleteOh lord but those chocolate cookies look good. Mmmm. mayhap I should start some baking...
ReplyDeleteThe fruit looks lovely, and the one in the middle on the right
ReplyDeleteS. S. ji - Me, too. I put on pounds/kilograms just looking at them.
ReplyDeleteSherry ji - do that at your own risk. One necessary property of comfort foods is the they are fattening.
Eleanor ji. Oh, my dear Eleanor, if I can whet your appetite, I will have done my good deed for the day. Eat up, lady!
Iom ji - I believe you are new to me. Welcome, and that dish would be mattar paneer, the most delicious dish in the whole of Punjabi cuisine.
