WHITHER GOEST THOU, BARACK?

As the readers of this blog well know, I have been a supporter of Barack Obama for what has been called "the worst job in the world. I am glad he won, not only because the alternative choice completely lost my respect, but also because I think he is a good man with a lot of potential.

He has started out OK, I think. He has ordered an end to torture as a questioning tool (India, are you listening?), he has ordered Gitmo closed within a year (a year is too long) and he now permits states to be tougher on auto pollution than the federal standards (HURRAY! - not allowing this was one of his predecessor's typically stupid acts.)

If he can maintain a modicum of humility and keep his integrity intact, I believe he will be a great leader and one of the greatest presidents. If not, I fear he will become a demagogue and maybe, a dictator.

Time will tell.

  2. Dear S. S. Ji - Indeed he does. And I still can't quite get my mind around the fact that he is really, truly President.

Now we pray that he continues to rock!

  3. Hey Obama is okay if the string pullers come to their senses and allow US to repair it's economy but whatever he thinks he can do in Afg. and Pk. will be interesting because as we are keenly aware, King Porus 'Singh' has his eyes on that real estate too and he's been waiting a long time...very interesting!

  4. Aw, Kiddo ji, I love you.

BHO should never forget that war with Afghanistan ultimately brought down the mighty Soviet Union, not with a bang but a whimper.

  6. God Mai, why don't you make it part of a book? It's an uphill struggle but you could pull off a hell of a story. In fact, in some ways, I think that every Sikh should write a book, cause every Sikh is a hero if they live truthfully but I'm not talking about myself I'm talking about the dharma of it and the proscribed path that you describe so well in your other posts but you could probably take a book to a whole nother level be it fiction or even biographical commentary cause you possess the skeeels not to mention the unique perspective. So there you go.

  7. Kiddo Ji - This is a broken record to me. Do you have any idea how many of my friends are pestering me to write a book? I'd like to try my hand at writing a novel some day. It would, however, be unreadable. Imagine elements of Kurt Vonnegut, Frank Herbert ("Dune"), Ayn Rand, Jane Austen, the dudes who wrote the "Hitchhiking Through The Galaxy" and "Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas" or whatever they called it, a dash of the Asimov-Heinlein school, maybe a bit of that guy whose name escapes me, very important writer, "The Executioner's Song", I had to go google on it, Norman Mailer, yes, that's it and who knows who else, always (in my own mind) suffused with the spirit of the gentle depths of the glorious teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and the equally glorious, dedicated, courageous spirit of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, blended with the experiences of my own life, which has not been uneventful. All thrown together in my own strange, amateurish style. Wild, mad, confusing...Unreadable, I tell you, unreadable!

    Thanks anyway.

Love to you and chardi kala!
